Lala Chaman Lal ji

Born on the 1st January, 1899. Lala Chaman Lal ji, became the youngest Principal of the biggest school in Punjab known as Sain Dass Anglo Sanskrit High School, Jallandhar City in 1921. Within one year, the young of 23 years old genius, known for his dedication to education, was enrolled as a Life Member of D.A.V.College Trust and Management Society.


Within a short period, Lala Ji became a known identity in Punjab. He was elected as a member of School Board of Punjab University, Lahore in 1945. In 1948, he was nominated by the Govt. of Punjab as a Member of Punjab Advisory Board of Education. He was also elected Fellow of Punjab University Senate and Member of Punjab Legislative Council. Lala ji's untiring contributions to the cause of education were duly recognised and admired by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India when in 1961, he was honoured as being the First teacher in the country to receive the National Award for Teaching by the then President of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Lala Chaman Lal ji retired in March 1962 but continued to guide more than a dozen D.A.V. Schools as an honorary Manager.

Dining Facilities 

Boys and girls have separate dining halls, which can be combined at the time of celebrations and gatherings. Quality home style, hygienic, nutritious vegetarian and non-negetarian Indian and Continental meals (optional) are served. All children eat together under the supervision of the Hostel staff.


Hygienic Food 

One of the most important concerns of the child and parents is the quality of food served in a boarding school. When a child goes to a boarding school he definitely misses home food. CHAMAN VATIKA offers high quality, fresh, wholesome meals seven days a week. The menu has been planned by a highly qualified nutritionist on the management, with consideration being given to the students eating preferences. Choices like soups, pasta dishes, vegetarian selections and ethnic dishes are some of the favourites. Nutritious and sumptuous food is given for breakfast and lunch, milk with snacks are laid out in the evening and a wholesome dinner is served at night. Children are also provided fresh milk and juice / fruit.

Care at CHAMAN VATIKA - Our Boarding House Services 

The primary concern of the residential staff is the security and comfort of our children. Each boarding house enjoys the assistance of efficient and caring support staff, including housekeepers, matrons, ayahs, laundry and maintenance staff, wardens, the principal & teachers who are residents of the campus. As far as possible, the boarders are housed together with others of the same age in bedrooms designed for four /eight students. Rooms are furnished with a bed, mattress, quilt, bed sheets, pillow, bed cover and bedside almirah.The 'Buddy' System is used for new boarders of the age 9-12 years. These children are allocated a 'Buddy' from their own year group, who will assist the new child in settling into the boarding house.

Weekends and Holidays 

Students are encouraged to stay over the weekend to take part in the various activities arranged, but they may have weekend exit, provided there is written permission from the parents, and the school is satisfied that there is a responsible adult in charge. Parents are encouraged to visit the students at weekends and on holidays, and to participate in their activities. The boarding houses are closed for Christmas, Easter, and summer holidays.

Faculty Accommodation 

The teachers of CHAMAN VATIKA willing to stay in the campus are provided separate accommodation.

The Buddy System 

The 'Buddy' System is used for new Boarders in which new students are allocated a ‘Buddy’ from their own peer group, who will assist the new child in settling into the boarding house. The peer-to-peer approach successfully addresses student doubts and worries in a non-threatening and friendly manner. Students are free to share feelings about their experiences in a candid, supportive atmosphere that provides an outlet and an open forum for expression. 

Other services available in the Hostel :- 

An electrical laundry is under operation, equipped with semi automatic industrial washing. Our laundry staff takes care of the collecting, washing, ironing and delivery system. 

Mending, button-stitching, altering of clothes/dresses are taken care of through the tailoring staff. 

Repairing of footwear is taken care of by the cobbler.

Hostel - A Home Away From Home 

The School is a day-cum-residential school with separate hostels for boys and girls.The hostel, a well-planned modern building with all amenities is air-conditioned, well maintained and aesthetically pleasing. Dormitories are spacious with airy 4 & 8 seater rooms and individual cubicles. All hostels have 24 hour running hot and cold water and complete electricity backup. 

Recreational Facilities

At CHAMAN VATIKA, we ensure that our boarders are never bored! After the school hours students are encouraged to participate in recreational activities like sports and games - both indoors and outdoors. House activities are organized and boarders are expected to involve themselves in the boarding house. 'House evenings', provide a chance to the students to show their talent in dramatics, dance, music and various aspects of stage management. Practical experience is gained through participation in Students Council, Food Committee, etc.. Pleasure and adventure trips, treks, expeditions and socials are organized throughout the year. Each boarding house has recreation lounges with facilities for table tennis, board games, cable TV, video, DVD players, computers with Internet access, telephones, newspapers clothing/linen store, housemother's room, kitchen, library in addition to bedroom and the office. 
CHAMAN VATIKA has world class sports and training facilities for Athletics, Swimming, Skating, Martial Arts, Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Horse Riding, Cricket, Snooker, Soccer & Weight Training. A fully equipped gymnasium and a swimming pool, 400 meters track and full sized soccer field, fitness center, tennis, basketball and squash courts are some of the facilities the students can use.
